Why is the target measured in pre-sale units rather than setting a financial threshold?Updated a year ago

Products vary in price, due to different types of production costs. The number of pre-sold units is a better indication of the level of popularity of a product. The threshold number of units is set at a level that indicates "true fans" beyond the support a creator receives from family and friends.

Support from customers outside a creator's own network is a good indication that a product meets a need in the marketplace. Sales figures are data points that provide strong evidence of product-market fit and provide momentum for scaling up production for the commercial marketplace and (if desired) attracting inward financial backing from investors.
